Red exteriors in general can be a super fun way to show personality in a sea of grey and white. But this color has a long history on exteriors, from Early Amerian colonials to barn accents to even Mid-Century Modern details.
It can be a lot on its own, so it’s best paired with lots of texture, natural finishes, and in softer non-glossy finishes.

Try searching for “dark red”, “burgundy”, “wine” and “maroon” when you’re looking for this color. I love this as an accent with a warm neutral or almost black house.

For exteriors, lighting is less of a concern, so go a dark as your heart desires. But inside? It’s different. Your lighting is going to greatly affect the way the color reads, and it’s immediately going to feel darker than it does on the chip. So if your room doesn’t have a ton of natural light, go up a step or two on the chip and sample those colors, too, before you make your final decision.
